How to Clean Your Dryer Vent Screen in 5 Minutes

Have you noticed your dryer vent screen becoming plugged up with lint and residue?  The use of fabric softener and dryer sheets will cause a build up on your dryer vent screen that will eventually clog your screen altogether.  There are several problems with this.  First of all, excessive lint buildup can be a fire hazard, plus it will affect the efficiency of your dryer.  With a clogged dryer screen, your clothes will take longer to dry, which will therefore cost you more in electricity.  And I could go on and on about the yuck factor too!

I am going to walk you through a couple of steps to get your dryer vent screen as good as new again in just 5 minutes!

First try to clear as much lint as possible by hand.

Then fill a bucket with hot water.  Add several drops of Dishwashing Liquid.  Some people swear by Dawn, but I love a good deal so I just used my Gain detergent that I bought in bulk for less than $0.80 the other day.

Soak your dryer vent screen in the hot soapy water for at least 1 minute.

Once you have soaked the screen, take a soft bristle toothbrush to the screen itself scrubbing in circular motions.

Once you are done scrubbing, simply run hot water through the screen to flush out any debris and dry with a soft, dry towel.

This entire process took me less than 5 minutes from start to finish today and now my dryer is back to drying my laundry as quick as before.
